New from AMG: three unique, high-performance cars
Mercedes-AMG will unveil three new, high-performance cars – the innovative SLK 55 AMG, C 55 AMG and G 55 AMG models – at this year's Geneva Motor Show. The new SLK 55 AMG is destined to take pole position in the compact-roadster segment. With a 5.5-litre, eight-cylinder AMG engine developing 265 kW/360 hp and a peak torque of 510 Nm, this dream open-top model brings a whole new meaning to the term driving enjoyment. No other vehicle in this segment can boast a V8 powerplant. And no competitor can match the unique two-seater in terms of engine data and performance figures.

The C 55 AMG is the sportiest C-Class ever produced. Equipped with a high-displacement, eight-cylinder AMG engine which squeezes 270 kW/367 hp and a peak torque of 510 Nm from its 5439-cc capacity, the flagship AMG model delivers sports-car performance and is available in Saloon or Estate guise.

The new G 55 AMG with an AMG supercharged V8 engine is being launched to coincide with the 25th birthday of the G-Class. At the heart of the classic off-roader from Stuttgart is a supercharged 5.5-litre, eight-cylinder engine that is renowned for its power. A maximum output of 350 kW/476 hp and a peak torque of 700 Nm make for superlative performance.

The unveiling of the SLK 55 AMG is further testament to the expertise of Mercedes-AMG when it comes to developing unique, high-performance cars. Featuring breath-taking styling, this dream car is the only vehicle in its class to boast an eight-cylinder engine. There is no competitor to rival the SLK made by Mercedes-AMG in terms of engine data and performance figures: with a displacement of 5439 cc, an output of 265 kW/360 hp at 5750 rpm and a peak torque of 510 Nm at 4000 rpm, the AMG V8 powerplant accelerates the two-seater model from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and enables it to reach the 200-km/h mark in 17.5 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. With its immense pulling power and classic AMG V8 sound, the SLK 55 AMG has a dynamic appeal all of its own. The market launch will be in the fourth quarter of 2004.

The eight-cylinder AMG engine incorporates high-tech developments from the world of motor racing such as ultra-lightweight pistons made from cast aluminium, oil spray nozzles for cooling the piston crowns, "assembled" camshafts, a newly developed twin-pipe intake system and a specially adapted variable intake manifold.
