2007 Concorso Italiano
Concorso Italiano is always one of the most anticipated events of the Monterey weekend. Not necessarily because of the cars – Ferraris and Lamborghinis are more commonplace than Toyota Camry’s on the Monterey peninsula during this particular week – but more because of the atmosphere. Those attending Concorso just seem to be having more fun than anyone else. The show is almost more like a local car gathering where anyone and everyone is invited, and one can catch up with old friends or make new ones.

Lamborghini always has a strong presence at the show, and this year Concorso celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Countach. Several examples representing the different models were present, including the very first Countach ever produced. Lamborghini test driver Valentino Balboni was on hand to share stories about the creation and development of the car. Also making its first appearance at Concorso was the Superleggera, of which there were several examples. Other notable Lamborghinis included a 1-of-3 Miura Roadster and a Murcielago R-GT racecar.

No celebration of Italian cars would be complete without Ferrari, and this year marked the 60th anniversary of the company. In particular, the 250 GT Cabriolet and California Spyder were highlighted as part of their 50th anniversary. For the first time in several years, a Ferrari also took the Best of Show award – a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS owned by Tazio Denicola of Saratoga, FL.
